Faction: The Bell and Hammer

 

The Bell and Hammer is a force of brutal faerie-slayers and witch-hunters charge with hunting down mourners (people who hold to the faiths of the old gods), hate-breed, necromancers, and the faerie folk that have begun repopulating the woodlands. At least, that is what they are in theory.

In practice they are the Crown's Brute Squad. The Bell and Hammer has license to target anyone suspected of having truck with dark powers, and extract information any way they need to. The Commander of the Bell and Hammer, Heinrich Sprenger, has secret orders to keep a constant pressure on the region. To be brutal enough and choose the targets of their inquisition selectively to cause the most discontent with the local lords.

They make a show of keeping villagers paranoid by bringing to light minor offenders in prominent places in the village, and spectacles when they catch wealthy guildmasters of minor Northern nobles dabbling in illegal magics or having truck with dangerous spirits.

Sprenger is a politician at heart, not a solider. He is more interested in choosing his targets to create the impact the Crown wants while causing the least mayhem.

The Bell and Hammer's Lieutenant Klovis Sturmhertz, is a true believer in the mission of keeping the fae and cultists in check. He is willing to do so using any means necessary. If he was perceptive enough to understand Sprenger's methods, he might rebel against them.

The Rest of the Bell and Hammer are chosen for their combination of conviction and lack of conscience. They will crush what they are told to crush without much thought, and treat anyone standing against them as colluders.

Bell and Hammer soldiers are outfitted with gambeson and a mix of mauls, falchions, and crossbows that include cold iron and silver tipped bolts.

Heinrich Sprenger carries a slender epee and a highly customized light crossbow. He is known as a crack shot by his men, who enjoy watching him shoot down fleeing quarry.

Leg Shot: When Sprenger hits a target at NEAR distance, he may opt to do a d6 of damage and instead cause a MODERATE WOUND to the target's leg.

An absolute bear of a man, Klovis Sturmhertz is a master of the Claymore, and wields it with terrifying speed and efficiency. He is grizzled from years of campaigning both against rebels along the Northern Coast, and brigands in the Old Dark-Wood.

  • Leg Shot: Sprenger may opt to shoot a target within 60' in the leg. If he hits, the target must Save Vs. Paralysis or fall down and be reduced to half movement speed until they receive medical attention or a cure wounds spell.
